A geomembrane is a very low permeability synthetic membrane liner or barrier used with geotechnical engineering related materials to control fluid (or gas) migration in human-made projects, structures, or systems. HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) liner is a special form of polyethylene with longer carbon strings and less branching, resulting in a more compact molecule and higher density.
HDPE liner is recognized as the strongest, toughest, and most chemical-resistant flexible plastic sheeting. It is inherently UV resistant, holding up to harsh sunlight without needing extensive additive packages. Its tight cell structure makes it difficult for other molecules to pass through at a microscopic level, making it ideal for large-scale pond liners, secondary containment for oil tanks, and canal liners.
